為 美國六○年代最知名的電視電影劇作家與小說家，曾經獲得許多國際知名的獎項得主，如：奧斯卡獎、東尼獎及愛倫坡懸疑小說獎。他的小說作品成績更是輝煌， 每一本都曾榮登紐約時報最佳暢銷書排行榜第一名，小說至今已在全球發行超過180個國家，被翻譯成51種語言，總銷售量超過兩億八千萬冊，堪稱目前世界上 作品銷售成績最可觀的作家之一。目前雖然高齡八十六歲但仍在創作中(?)，於2004年推出新作「Are You Afraid of the Dark？」。
雖然是大師，但是非常不受台灣出版商的重視，以前只有皇冠，小知堂，時報與高寶曾經零星出版過他的小說，自從著作權法實施以後，幾乎在國內就沒有出版過他的著作了，今年公共電視曾經播出「如果還有明天」的迷你影集，不慎錯過，悵甚！
